LA CROSSE, Wis. (WEAU) – Tellurian Behavioral Health is bringing a new facility to help people who are experiencing mental health crises. The Jackson House is hosting an open house to show the community the new eight-bed facility that looks to give mental health care and supervision without the need for medical clearance.
“They might be struggling with depression or anxiety. We’re here to provide a place where they can be safe and be supported,” says Tellurian behavioral health social services coordinator Tim Blumentritt.
Blumentritt says the Jackson House will provide plenty of that support in different ways.
“There will be some medical oversight to the program for those that need an assessment for any medical issues that are going on. We’ll have mental health professionals running the facility. Patients will have some of the basics of getting some food, being able to take a shower, and having their clothes washed. They have the option of staying in a chair or potentially sleeping in a bed if that’s what’s needed. Everything that is provided will be based on that individual’s needs, not just a generic list of services,” says Blumentritt.
Blumentritt says it has been a two-year process getting everything set up for the house.
“We have done a lot from remodeling the building, to recently obtaining our community-based residential facility license from the state of Wisconsin. The majority of the staff have been hired. There’s a significant amount of training that goes into providing mental health support. We’re in that final phase before we start providing services,” says Blumentritt.
Blumentritt adds that there has been plenty those in the community who agree that there needs to be more support for those who struggle with mental health.
“I think many people recognize the need is really high right now, instead of just talking about things. We’re honored to have this opportunity to be a part of the solution and continue to essentially help more people,” says Blumentritt.
Tellurian Health officials say Jackson House will be set for use sometime next spring.
Jackson House is part of a plan developed by the state of Wisconsin to open five regional health crisis facilities across the state.
