JOLIET— The Joliet Police Department made two arrests, a 20-year-old man and a 16-year-old girl, following a violent encounter with the suspects at the Thorntons gas station at 400 Collins Street early Sunday morning, the arrest reports show.
Joliet police say that Mauricio Camacho was later released on a Notice to Appear on charges of aggravated battery to a peace officer, resisting a peace officer, obstructing a peace officer and criminal trespass. The 16-year-old girl who was with Camacho was brought to the River Valley Justice Center, where she faces charges of aggravated battery to a peace officer, resisting a peace officer, obstructing a peace officer and criminal trespass.
Joliet police spokesman Dwayne English said the following sequence of events unfolded at the Thorntons gas station around 3:25 a.m. on Sunday. Officers responded to Thornton’s gas station at 400 Collins for a disturbance. The 16-year-old girl and Camacho were refusing to leave the store,police said, despite being told to leave numerous times by the employee.
According to English, officers noticed that the 16-year-old was visibly intoxicated. As the officers were attempting to stop the juvenile from walking away, police said Camacho then pushed one of the officers. Officers took Camacho to the ground, at which time the juvenile began striking the same officer. English said the teen and Camacho resisted the Joliet police’s attempts to place them into custody by pulling away and attempting to kick at them.
