Trip to meet a newborn ends in serious crash for family in Napa

A mother and her two daughters suffered broken backs in a crash on Old Sonoma Highway in Napa last month as they drove to welcome a new baby into the family, relatives say.
The three were injured about 6 a.m. Nov. 23 when their SUV went into a ditch near Carneros Resort and Spa in Napa, according to Cal Fire.
“What was meant to be one of the happiest days of our lives turned into one of the hardest,” family members wrote in a GoFundMe post that has raised $45,000 for their recovery as of Monday evening.
According to the post, the younger sister dialed 911 despite her own injuries. The three were taken to a hospital and then transferred to U.C. Davis Medical Center, where at least two have undergone surgery.
The mother had been the family’s primary provider. Her partner, who has been on long-term disability, will now serve as caregiver, relatives said. The family says they need funds for a home entry ramp, adaptive medical equipment, ongoing rehabilitation, and travel and daily care expenses.
“Doctors have called mom’s progress a miracle, but her recovery journey, along with my sisters, will be long and challenging,” the post adds.
