USMNT Star Tim Ream Addresses Longevity & Mental Health Practices at 38

U.S. men’s national soccer team player Tim Ream spoke with Athlon Sports about mental health and his preferred practices for staying happy.
Ream, 38, just joined the Ad Council to launch the ‘Love, Your Mind’ Playbook initiative, as was announced Wednesday.
Ahead of the announcement, the Charlotte FC defender shared his best practices. “Obviously, there are lots of different rituals; everybody’s going to be different. For me personally, I’ll give you three,” he told us.
“I have dogs, so being able to go outside and walk my dogs is a big one. I do enjoy fishing if I want to be on my own and really connect with the outside world and nature. I can go out back and fish and really just reset my mind.”
But that’s not all. Ream also told us about an activity he loves that people might not know about, because it is a particular one.
“And then a little bit of a simpler one, one people probably don’t really realize, is I love to do Lego – the actual Lego sets where you sit there and have to follow directions and follow a process. You start from one tiny Lego all the way until you build whatever structure you’re building. That, for me, is calming, being able to focus on one thing instead of 100 different things going on around me. So those are my three go-tos.”
Tim Ream Joined Several Athletes in the New Ad Council Initiative
The ‘Love, Your Mind’ Playbook initiative is aimed at promoting mental health. “Joining the Ad Council… It’s a simple way to show people that taking care of your mind and your mental health is important – and not just for athletes, but for everyone,” said Ream.
The Ad Council explained that the ‘Love, Your Mind’ Playbook at LoveYourMindPlaybook.org will offer “new practical tools, athlete stories, and resources to inspire open conversations and everyday actions that support mental health.”
“The world of sports has tremendous cultural influence – and now, with the ‘Love, Your Mind’ Playbook, we’re opening up new conversations about mental health that are authentic, inspiring, and deeply impactful,” said Lisa Sherman, president and CEO of the Ad Council.
“We’re grateful to partner with some of the most influential athletes, leagues, and brands to meet people where they are – on the field, in the stands, and at home – to spark meaningful conversations and drive lasting change,” she added.
