A male victim who was pulled from an apartment fire overnight in the Belmont Cragin neighborhood has died from his injuries and the fire was declared a crime scene, officials said.
Shortly before 1 a.m. Wednesday, police and fire officials were called out to an apartment building fire in the 2500 block of North Meade Avenue. A male victim was rescued with a laceration to the neck and burns to the body, police said.
Sources said a fire broke out in a basement, and one victims was found who died from his injuries. An official related the incident was now a crime scene.
Fire officials said three were displaced in the fire.
The victim was taken to Loyola University Medical Center where he was listed in critical condition, police said. The victim’s exact age was not immediately available.
Police and fire officials were investigating.
