Victim in fatal Washington County house fire identified

The victim of a fatal house fire in Washington County this month has been identified as the homeowner.
Vincent Dineen, 86, of Meddybemps, was identified by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner on Tuesday, Lt. Aaron Turcotte of the Maine State Police said in a news release.
Firefighters responded to a fire at 624 Main St. in Meddybemps around 6 p.m. on Nov. 16, according to the State Fire Marshal’s Office, and the local fire chief had reported it was possible the homeowner might still be inside the residence.
The house was fully engulfed and the fire spread to a vehicle in the driveway, officials said.
Crews from more than a half-dozen fire departments responded to the incident and fought through heavy snow conditions.
The remains of an adult were found inside the house once the fire was extinguished, officials said, which were identified as Dineen’s on Tuesday.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
Meddybemps, a small town near Maine’s eastern border with Canada, had a population of 139 as of the 2020 U.S. census.
