Who is Section V Boys Athlete of the Week for Dec. 8-14? Vote now

It’s time to take a look at the standout performers from Section V.
Your vote will determine who will be the Faber Builders Boys Sports Athlete of the Week for December 8-14. The players’ credentials are listed above the poll — which will be live until 8 p.m. Wednesday. The winner will be announced on our Instagram page Thursday morning.
The nominees are chosen by our sports reporters. If you would like to call attention to an athlete’s performance to be considered for the nomination, please email sports@democratandchronicle.com. All athletes who play on Section V boys teams are eligible to be nominated.

Andrew Green
Fairport senior is the first Section V indoor track and field athlete to run a sub-4 minute and 30-second 1,600-meter race this season. Green ran the race in 4:29.82 at Nazareth University.
Connor Guffey
A junior on the Webster Thomas wrestling team who won the 118-pound weight class at the Hunter-Leone Tournament at Penfield. Guffey also controlled his match during a dual meet against Spencerport, going on to win by technical fall, 16-1.
Lucas Grizzanti
Hilton hockey forward scored all three goals in the Cadets’ shutout win over Victor on Tuesday.
Avery Hepler
A guard who helped the Geneseo Blue Devils basketball team remain undefeated, when he scored 28 points, including eight 3-pointers, during a win over Dansville. Hepler made five 3-pointers as he scored 23 points against Livonia.
Desmond Hill
A sophomore at Marcus Whitman who ran the fastest 1,000-meter race, 2 minutes and 36.02 seconds, during an indoor track and field meet at Nazareth College.
Matt Howland
A basketball guard in his senior year at School of the Arts, who made a 3-pointer with 4.2 seconds remaining to help the Silverhawks complete a comeback win over World of Inquiry. SOTA was down 19 points during the third quarter.
Karvel Martino
Batavia senior became the first indoor track and field athlete in Section V this season to put a shot more than 50 feet, a 50-8 during a shot put event during a meet at SUNY Brockport.
Jake McCarthy
Penfield’s 6 foot-9 inch tall center in his junior year was named the most valuable player of a basketball tournament at Buffalo Canisius High on Dec. 13. McCarthy finished with 16 points, 14 rebounds and 5 blocked shots in the final against the host team. He scored 17 points with 15 rebounds in the first round against Horseheads of Section IV.
David Pollard
Pittsford hockey forward totaled four goals and six assists across three wins for the Panthers last week.
Vitali Pushnin
Rush-Henrietta lightweight wrestler won the 126-pound weight class tournament during the Phoenix Scramble in Oswego County in Section III. Pushnin, a junior, also picked up a win during a dual meet against Greece when he pinned his opponent.
Josh Shadders
Mendon basketball guard, a senior, scored 23 points in a victory over Churchville-Chili and 17 against Canandaigua. The Vikings are 2-0.
Will Stevens
Batavia Notre Dame United senior recorded two goals and two assists in his team’s win over Livingston on Tuesday.
Brody Vance
A junior on the Andover/Whitesville basketball team, who scored his 1,000th varsity point Dec. 13 against Bolivar-Richburg. Vance finished with 37 points during a win over Bolivar-Richburg, after scoring 23 points against Avoca/Prattsburgh. Andover/Whitesville had a 4-0 record through Dec. 14.
