A medical helicopter crashed in Mississippi’s Madison County on Monday and fatalities have been reported.
According to a spokesperson for the Madison County Sheriff’s Office, the helicopter went down in a densely wooded area between the Natchez Trace Parkway and Pipeline Road.
Newsweek reached out to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) via email for comment.
Why It Matters
Recent aviation incidents, close calls, and crashes have sparked a nationwide focus on the industry’s safety protocols. In late January, a U.S. Army Black Hawk helicopter and an American Airlines jet collided midair near Washington, D.C., making it the first fatal commercial crash in the United States since 2009.
What To Know
According to local news station WTVA News, the FAA confirmed three people were on board the helicopter. The Associated Press, citing officials, says a pilot and two hospital workers were on board, but not a patient.
The Natchez Trace Parkway posted to Facebook that the area was closed
