Hart district to host discussion on culture of safety, wellness

The William S. Hart Union High School District is scheduled to host a community discussion 6 p.m. Thursday at the Canyon Country Community Center to discuss the district’s continued focus on the safety and wellness of the students, staff and climate of the campuses.
The Hart district has been committed to seeking input from the community on an annual basis, according to an email sent to the district community by Superintendent Michael Vierra.
Students, staff and parents will get the opportunity to join the discussion. The meeting is also an officially noticed public meeting of the district’s governing board.
During the meeting, district staff will share some information regarding the components that contribute to safety and wellness, access and equity and communication and collaboration on campuses as outlined in the Strategic Plan, according to Vierra’s email.
Participants will be invited to provide feedback and suggestions in key areas like physical safety and communication, culture and climate, and mental health and wellness supports.
The feedback from the discussion will help efforts to enhance and improve the board’s planning and determine how to allocate resources, according to Vierra’s email.
Last year’s meeting at La Mesa Junior High had participants break into small groups and speak with administrators about what they can do to improve.
Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station officials made an appearance last year to speak with students, staff and parents about their roles on the campus and what they are doing to ensure safety.
Last year’s meeting also included discussions about some programs like CrisisGo that help alert people of a potential situation and Bark for Schools, which allows administrators to be notified of any potential safety issues. Students also have access to the CAREText System, which gives them resources to report threats or concerns.
The Canyon Country Community Center is located at 18410 Sierra Highway.
