GIRLS BKB: BAY CITY CENTRAL 32, MT. MORRIS 25
Nobody relishes a victory more than Bay City Central.
The score doesn’t matter. The opponent doesn’t matter. That stat line doesn’t matter.
It’s the outcome that means everything.
With a 32-25 victory over Mt. Morris in a matchup of winless teams, the Wolves put one in the win column with full appreciation. Central (1-5) snapped the program’s 13-game losing streak and gave its young squad its first highlight of the season.
“They were pretty excited about winning,” Central coach Todd Thunberg said. “Most of my team was on JV the last two years and they had won one game. So this is their second win ever and, for a couple, this was their first win at the high school level.”
Central came into the contest averaging just 16.2 points per game. Yet the Wolves showed a knack for making big buckets on this night. Knotted at 17-17 in the third quarter, Addison Sirianni drilled a clutch 3-pointer that gave Central a lead it would not relinquish.
When Mt. Morris (0-6) closed to within 26-25 in the fourth quarter, Sirianni hit another triple to create some breathing room. Brynn Corrion iced the game with a huge steal and layup in the final minutes.
“We area a team that is learning to play at the varsity level,” Thunberg said. “There are some things we will do well, but we have to learn how to play with more consistency. Keep doing what we do well and learn from our mistakes.”
Corrion led the way with 11 points while Sirianni finished with eight. Olivia Dore and Maddie Harder each chipped in four points in the victory.

GIRLS BKB: ALL SAINTS 31, CPS 17
Bay City All Saints wasn’t exactly piling up the points.
But it looked like a mountain compared to how many the Cougars allowed.
Playing a stingy brand of defense that got better as the game went on, All Saints opened Big Thumb Conference Red play with a 31-17 victory over Carsonville-Port Sanilac.
“The difference was our defense,” All Saints coach Mike Debo said. “The effort was there. You’ve got to win with defense, and that’s what we did.”
Kara Schular scored 12 points while Kellen Proctor and Gali Costilla each scored six for the Cougars (4-1, 1-0), the four-time defending league champions. All Saints led 15-11 at the half and 19-13 through three quarters before finishing on a 12-4 run that featured baskets from four different players.
Danica Neering was a big part of the defensive success with six rebounds while Proctor and Schular each snared five steals. The Cougars notched 20 steals in the game.
