Blood drive honors slain, injured Northern York County detectives: How to donate

WellSpan is hosting a week-long blood drive to honor the three Northern York County Regional Police detectives killed in a Sept. 17 shooting in North Codorus Township, as well as two injured officers.
WellSpan’s event will be hosted at its Blood Donation Center at Apple Hill Medical Center from Monday, Sept. 29, through Friday, Oct. 3.
“Blood donation is one of the most direct ways people can help others,” said Steve LaCour, WellSpan’s laboratory supervisor. “Donations take less than an hour and save lives every day, especially during emergencies, and to support the recovery of patients with chronic conditions and those undergoing complex surgeries.”
The two officers injured in the shooting were transported to WellSpan York Hospital, where they received life-saving treatment. Both were recently upgraded to “satisfactory” condition.
All blood donations made in York will stay within the community, WellSpan said.
“The blood drive is a reminder that even in moments of loss, there are ways to lift others up,” said LaCour. “Through each donation, the legacy of the fallen officers lives on in the lives that are saved and the compassion that is shared.”
Appointments are recommended for the blood drive, but walk-ins are also accepted. You can also make an appointment by phone at 717-741-8307.
