Chocolate Recalled Nationwide as Warning Issued

A batch of chocolate is being recalled nationwide due to concerns that it may have been contaminated with Salmonella.
According to a company announcement, Spring & Mulberry is voluntarily recalling its Mint Leaf Date Sweetened Chocolate Bar (2.1 oz) due to the potential presence of the bacterial infection, which can cause symptoms like diarrhea, fever, and stomach cramps.
The recall, announced on January 12, 2026, affects lot #025255 and was posted as a public service by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
There have been no reports of illness linked to the recalled product as of the recall date, according to the company announcement.
Salmonella Risks and Public Health Concerns
Those in vulnerable groups, such as people with weakened immune systems, frail and elderly people, pregnant women, or children, are most at risk if they consume the product.
In severe cases, infection may result in more critical complications, such as arterial infections or endocarditis. The recall’s significance lies in preventing such outcomes before any illness is reported.
Spring & Mulberry said: “Healthy individuals infected with Salmonella may experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain.
“In rare cases, infection can result in the organism entering the bloodstream and causing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections (i.e., infected aneurysms), endocarditis, and arthritis. Individuals experiencing these symptoms should seek medical attention immediately.”
