LowVelo launches spin-a-thon for cancer research

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) — The Medical University of South Carolina Hollings Cancer Center LowVelo Launch Spin-a-thon was held Sunday afternoon in downtown Charleston, marking the first time the event has taken place.
The Hot Girl Cycle Club led dozens of participants through cycling classes as part of the event. The founder of the Hot Girl Cycle Club said the spin-a-thon offers an opportunity for everyone, including those who do not know how to ride a traditional bike.
Chelsea Stone, associate director with LowVelo, said the spin-a-thon serves as preparation for a fall ride fundraiser, with all proceeds going to cancer research.
“The LowVelo launch spin-a-thon is so important because we’re getting people together in the community in all forms of wellness, whether it be spin, yoga, all the incredible wellness vendors that we have here today that are offering up the community and support for MUSC Hollings Cancer Center and for us to cure cancer together,” Stone said.
In addition to cycling, the event featured yoga and wellness vendors. Donations are open through 11:59 p.m. Sunday. You can donate here if interested.
Registration for the official LowVelo ride in November opens on March 19.
