Massachusetts high school sports highlights for April 2

While Bumila was certainly the diamond star on a day in which most baseball and softball games were postponed for weather, there was plenty of lacrosse and volleyball action to make up for it, including Milford boys’ lax defeating Franklin for the first time, and Phillips Andover girls’ lax topping Nobles for the first time in 20 years.
Check out our main scoreboard here, our dive into our individual sport scoreboards: Baseball | Softball | Boys’ lacrosse | Girls’ lacrosse | Boys’ volleyball | Boys’ tennis | Girls’ tennis

▪ Beverly junior Sasha Miller scored four goals with two assists in an 11-2 win over Masconomet to reach 100 career points.
▪ Ipswich senior Allie Wile recorded her 100th career draw control during a 14-2 greasing of Georgetown.
▪ On Tuesday, Millbury junior Jayden Delaleu set the school record by clearing 6 feet, 9 inches in the high jump during a meet against Douglas/Millbury. He easily cleared the previous mark of 6-4 set by Joe Bunevith in 1990. Delaleu’s 6-9 leap puts him No. 1 in Massachusetts — he’s the first in the MIAA to clear 6-8 outdoors in seven years — and in a three-way tie for 19th nationally.
▪ On Wednesday, in a 3-0 loss to Longmeadow, Southwick senior outside hitter Nicolas Spina notched his 1,000th career kill.
▪ Correspondent Trevor Hass was on hand as No. 7 Westwood girls’ lacrosse took down No. 5 Medfield, the defending Division 3 champions, 13-8, powered by five goals from junior Bridget Hughes.
▪ No. 19 O’Bryant boys’ volleyball pulled off a big Boston City League stunner, taking down No. 12 Latin Academy, 3-2, behind a 37-kill performance from senior Otavio Perks and 53 assists from junior Max Dong.
▪ For the first time in program history, Milford boys’ lacrosse defeated Hockomock rival Franklin. Jason Stokes scored six times in the Hawks’ 9-7 victory and Anthony Mastrioanni made 17 saves. Just four years ago Milford finished 0-17.
“I think it’s validation for all their hard work and the time and hours they’ve put in,” Milford coach Austin Costa said. “It all kind of came into fruition [Thursday].”
▪ For the first time since 2006, Phillips Andover notched a girls’ lacrosse win over Nobles. Maddie Greenwood racked up 13 saves, Scarlett Glass totaled nine draw controls, and Ashley Dimnaku (2 goals, assist) and Emma Morrison (3 goals, assist) powered the offense.
▪ Chloe McGary delivered the overtime dagger for Foxborough as it nipped King Philip, 7-6, in girls’ lacrosse action.
▪ North Quincy junior Ryan Sampson scored with just 1.6 seconds remaining in regulation to give North Quincy/Quincy an 8-7 victory over Hull.
▪ Leominster boys’ lacrosse topped North Middlesex, 8-7, in overtime on Max Sleeper’s fifth goal of the game.
Kevin Andriolo, Tewksbury — The junior continued his dominance at the ‘X’, winning 16 of 17 faceoffs in a 14-2 boys’ lacrosse beating of Bedford to bring his season total to a near-perfect 55 for 56.
Daniel Colon, Catholic Memorial — The senior blasted a three-run homer to propel the Knights to a 12-2 baseball win over Lowell.
Jimmy DiCarlo and Connor Durney, St. John’s Prep — With two-run homers from both juniors, the Eagles handled Haverhill, 11-0.
Zoe Dwyer, Marblehead — The sophomore was a scoring machine, sending in eight goals and dishing two assists for the Magicians in a 14-8 triumph over Bishop Fenwick.
Brian Mancinelli and Henry Roy, St. John Paul II — The senior duo combined for a 16-strikeout no-hitter, with Mancinelli mowing down nine hitters in four innings while walking one and Roy striking out seven in three innings to beat Nauset, 1-
Parker Shen and Owen Avila, Lincoln-Sudbury — Both stuffed the stat sheet in a five-set boys’ volleyball win over Doherty. Shen, a junior, had 23 kills and 19 digs, and Avila, a junior, posted 36 assists, 18 service points, 14 digs, and 3 aces.

Riches Won Tep, KIPP — The junior delivered 19 kills, 3 aces, and 5 digs to earn Lynn City Volleyball Tournament MVP honors as KIPP captured a third-straight city crown, 3-1, over Lynn Classical.
▪ Nobles announced it is bringing back football coach Bob Moore to helm the program, a dozen years after he was first at the helm. Moore coached Nobles from 2004-2014 before stepping away.
A biology teacher, he returned as defensive coordinator in 2018 and stayed for three years, departing again in 2021 before returning as an assistant in 2024. He has also coached at the College of Wooster, Virginia Episcopal School, and Phillips Exeter.
He takes over for Jim O’Leary, who spent one year at Nobles after a lengthy career at Governor’s.
In a pleasant break from listing transfer portal entries, Providence sophomore Ryan Mela, a Newman School graduate who played two years at Natick, announced he will return for his junior season.
Mela started 22 off 33 games last season, averaging 9.9 points and 5.3 rebounds per game. In two games in the Big East Tournament he averaged 19.5 points and 6.5 rebounds. In his first season at PC, he made the Big East All-Freshman team.
“Having watched Ryan play, it was evident that he has shown consistent improvement over his first 60 games at PC,” said new coach Bryan Hodgson. “He also displayed toughness and passion that we were attracted to. We felt he embodied the character and discipline that we are looking for in building our roster for the 2026-27 season. Most importantly it says a lot about Providence College, this city, and this fanbase, to be able to retain a player of Ryan’s caliber.”
▪ Abington senior Kingston Maxwell announced on social media that he will play men’s basketball at Endicott. The 6-4 wing was named South Shore Tobin Player of the Year.
▪ Dracut senior Ava O’Brien, a four-year starter for the Middies, has committed to play women’s lacrosse at Plymouth State.
