Massachusetts high school sports highlights for March 24

▪ Watertown senior Caleb Hardy, a 5-10, 250-pound center and defensive tackle, has committed to play football at Rochester.
▪ Bishop Fenwick announced the hiring of former Concord-Carlisle softball coach Lisa McGloin to helm its program. A Fenwick alum and former team captain, McGloin went on to play at the University of North Carolina and has spent more than four decades in coaching, including 26 years at C-C and eight as an assistant at Fenwick from 1989-97.
McGloin went 441-122 with the Patriots, capturing 18 Dual County League crowns and making six state semifinal appearances. She has also worked as a hitting consultant with Merrimack and Bentley and has led the Raiders travel program since 1995.
“Lisa McGloin represents the very best of Fenwick softball,” said athletic director Scott Connolly. “Her success as a coach is remarkable, but just as important is her commitment to developing student-athletes of character. We are thrilled to welcome her home to lead our softball program.”
Longtime assistant Cricket McCaffrey-Clark, who shared the dugout with McGloin for the past 23 years, is Concord-Carlisle’s new head coach.
▪ Mike Pucko will be taking over the football program at Fitchburg, his alma mater, where he is a member of the athletic Hall of Fame.
A three-time Super Bowl-winning coach at Holy Name from 2005-2015, Pucko has extensive experience at the high school and college levels. After graduating from Fitchburg in 1971, he played at UConn, then served as defensive coordinator at West Boylston and Marlborough, before taking over as West Boylston’s head coach from 2001-04.
More recently, he spent two years as an assistant at Assumption before joining the staff at Holy Cross. He is a recipient of the Distinguished Service to Central Massachusetts Football Award from the National Football Foundation and the College Hall of Fame.
The Red & Gray went 2-9 last season, the final of three under Paul DiGeronimo, and haven’t enjoyed a winning season since going 6-4 in 2021.
▪ Frank Roche is stepping down after three seasons as football coach at Arlington to take over the Belmont Hill job, as well as serve as assistant athletic director.
“It was an honor to represent my hometown school and I’m extremely proud of what we were able to accomplish,” Roche wrote on social media. “I’m equally honored to accept the position at Belmont Hill and become part of the great tradition the school and football program have. The commitment to elite athletics and academics is unmatched and I’m excited to get to work right away.”
The Spy Ponders were 7-4 last year, going 17-16 over Roche’s three seasons. Anthony Fucillo announced last month that he was stepping away from Belmont Hill after three seasons and a 15-11 record to serve as an assistant at Tufts.

▪ Keene State sophomore Katelyn Nicotera, a Medfield graduate, was named Little East Conference Goalkeeper of the Week, making a combined 21 saves in back-to-back wins. She posted a .667 save percentage to beat Holy Cros and a 58.3 save percentage to top Ramapo.
