New renderings offer tour inside Cavaliers’ posh new practice center in the Flats

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Cleveland Cavaliers and Bedrock on Monday offered new details of interior designs for the team’s practice center being built along the Cuyahoga River in partnership with the Cleveland Clinic.
The facility, as depicted by the renderings, almost takes on the feel of a posh health spa resort.
The dining area features high ceilings with slanted windows, allowing natural light to flow in. There’s a well-decorated barber shop.
The hydro-pool room has special lighting in the pools and ceiling. And the locker room shows individual locker spaces around a lounge with large chairs and multiple video screens.
The Cavs describe their new practice home as “one of the world’s most advanced sports performance centers.”
The Cavs’ portion of the Cleveland Clinic Global Peak Performance Center is scheduled to open a year from now, in February 2027, with public access to the Cleveland Clinic’s performance and treatment spaces anticipated in August 2027.
“Every detail of the Cleveland Clinic Global Peak Performance Center was purposefully designed to fuel excellence — equipping our players with resources, innovation, and competitive edge required to pursue championships and help define the future of the game,” Koby Altman, Cavs president of basketball operations, said in a statement with the release of the renderings.
The team will move from their Independence practice center, which will become the training center for Cleveland’s new WNBA team that is beginning play in 2028. Both teams are part of the Rock Entertainment Group.
The Cavs practiced in the downtown arena before moving to Independence in 2007.
Designs for the 210,000-square-foot building were handled by architectural firm Populous and interior design studio Pophouse.
The facility is being built at a bend on the east bank of the Cuyahoga River, just below Rocket Arena and Progressive Field. It’s the first building in the multi-decade, $3.5 billion plan by Bedrock to develop the riverfront. Bedrock, Rock Entertainment and the Cavs are among the companies led by Cavs owner Dan Gilbert.
Construction began in October 2024. The last beam was put in place during topping off ceremonies in July.
The walkway between Tower City Center and Rocket Arena affords views of the construction below. Nearby, work is also now visible on a new Eagle Avenue ramp that will serve as the main link between downtown and what’s now a hard-to-reach riverfront area.
The road will connect the development to Ontario Street near Rocket Arena and Progressive Field, near where the former Eagle Avenue viaduct was torn down in 2005.
Called The Riverfront, the Bedrock project marks the biggest effort ever to transform the former Flats industrial property south of the current core entertainment district into new places for people to live, work and play.
Plans call for public waterfront space – 12 acres – along with offices, housing and restaurants in a plan expected to take 15 to 20 years to fully develop the 35 acres.
