🏀Game of the Night
The Barrington girls basketball team may have cracked the code on how to become impossible to beat.
Don’t miss.
It felt like the Eagles were never going to on Tuesday night. Barrington hit nine 3-pointers in the first half, then took over the second half with a swarming defense in a 51-43 road win over Portsmouth.
The 3-point shootout started in the first quarter, as Ella Martin hit two of her team’s five 3-pointers that had the Eagles up 17-12 despite the Patriots making two from deep in the quarter.
Barrington kept shooting and continued making in the second quarter. Faith Van Ness got in the act then, knocking down two from deep with Martin hitting her third 3-pointer of the game and Genesis Castro hammering home her second that helped build a 34-29 lead at halftime.
The Eagles’ defense took over the show from there. Barrington surrendered just eight points in the third quarter and then closed by holding Portsmouth to six. While the Eagles didn’t light the scoreboard on fire, they did enough to grow the lead and get on the bus with a win.
Castro finished the night with 18 points, which including four 3-pointers. Martin hit three from deep and scored 13 points and Van Ness also hit three 3-pointers and finished with 11 points. Kiera Martin had Barrington’s other 3-pointer in the first quarter.
Annie Hurd did what she could for Portsmouth, scoring 10 of her team-high 16 points in the second quarter. Violet Silva came up with 11 for the Patriots and Gyselle Mairs was also in double figures with 10 points.

Moses Brown 51, Classical 37
Marielle Nassiff provided some offensive pop in the third quarter that gave the Quakers the separation they needed to close out the Purple in their 51-37 win.
The first quarter was tough defensive basketball, as Moses Brown led 9-4, then took a 24-15 lead into halftime thanks to nine points from Nassiff and six from Lauren Bousquet in the second quarter.
With Classical still hanging around, the Quakers revved up the defensive measures. They limited the Purple to just five points in the third quarter and Nassiff got herself some buckets, scoring eight points in the stretch to build a 42-20 lead heading to the fourth quarter.
Nassiff finished as Moses Brown’s top scorer with 23 points. Bousquet was right behind her with 21 points and Adelaide Crosby and Madison Wilson accounted for the remaining seven points.

Chariho 53, St. Raphael 49
It was close all night, but the Chargers pulled out a nailbiter and took down the Saints, 53-49.

Aquidneck Island Wrestling – a cop of of Portsmouth, Middletown and Newport – didn’t seem like it was pulling out a victory after the first three matches of the night. Michael Gagne needed a little bit longer at 175, getting his with four seconds left in the second period that put AIW ahead 33-30.
That was followed by a 3:23-second pin from Roman Ridolfi at 190 that put AIW needing a decision in the last two bouts to secure the victory.
Beaufort’s match didn’t start great, but he took control late in the first period and picked up his pin in the second as the AIW bench exploded in celebration.
