If the Rams’ offense were to be described in medical terms, Puka Nacua is the central organ, the heart of the pass attack.
When Nacua went down after a hard fall, later revealed to be an ankle injury, fantasy owners and Rams fans alike had reason for concern.
Nacua returned in the second half after being deemed questionable. While he did not bring down any catches after his return, him being back out there was a welcome sight after what appeared to be a concerning fall.
During the postgame, however, head coach Sean McVay said Nacua was “uncertain” to play in the Rams’ Week 7 matinee against the Jaguars in London.
The Rams will stay in Baltimore after their 17-3 win over the Ravens until they make the trip to the UK, and Wednesday’s practice will bring a pivotal update on Nacua’s status.
Davante Adams’ Fantasy Stock if Puka is Out
Adams would be the chief beneficiary of an injury to Puka that keeps him out for next week’s game.
The Jaguars have a passing defense that’s on the weaker side; they rank 27th in the NFL with 250.4 opponent yards per game.
That number goes up to 304 in away games – only the Ravens are worse in away games this season.
Having Nacua out would mean more attention to Adams, and where the Jags’ pass attack may thrive is in their adeptness with interceptions (1st in NFL), but Jaxon Smith-Njigba ran all over the Jags in a 162-yard, one touchdown breakout in Week 6.
Kyren Williams’ Fantasy Stock if Puka is Out
Likewise, Kyren Williams is another beneficiary of a potential Puka injury.
The fourth-year back started out sluggishly against Baltimore, running for 18 yards in the first half as a function of a Blake Corum time-share and a genera offensive malaise.
In the second half, though, Williams was able to find the end zone to bring his final line to 13-50-1 along with 37 receiving yards on two receptions.
The Rams would almost certainly run the ball more against a middle-of-the-pack Jags run defense with Puka out, and Williams would receive many more opportunities.
Williams has not faced the Jaguars in his career, as would be expected from an NFC West team against an AFC South team.
Williams and Adams would be in line for a greater role if Nacua does turn out to be on the injured list in Week 7.
